SHALOM Interventions

SHALOM being an agent of change is rooted in the values of peace, justice and integrity of creation. We are committed to the dignity of every human being. SHALOM is the lead organisation for Sustainable Development, Peace education, Leadership, Empowerment, health care, cultural research and development and Social Transformation in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It has enabled the rural poor towards sustainable development by imparting regular capacity building trainings in Women Empowerment, Leadership, Legal Aid education, health care, Gender Sensitization, micro-finance, rural resource management, formation of SHGs, Panchayatiraj, Government schemes, Entrepreneurship, Watershed Management and Environmental Protection, etc. etc., and has sent many men and women for exposure cum training to various parts of India.

In the educational field we are ensuring value based primary education in the remotest villages and created opportunities for many children to face the future. Even local government schools are strengthened through our tutorial efforts and opening village feeding schools. Regular efforts have curbed the drop-out rate. Adult education is promoted through media and folklore to overcome inequalities among men and women and empowered women to be active agents of development. SHALOM has created eco-friendly replicable models in natural resource management and rural livelihood programmes such as plantation, fruit gardens, animal husbandry, fishery, community farming, bamboo cultivation, bee-keeping, tailoring, weaving, herbal gardens, etc. which have become platforms for growth and self-reliance.

SHALOM has been a step ahead in training a number of women leaders to take up leadership roles, participate in decision making and to be self-reliant.

Our efforts to preserve cultural diversity and promote inter-religious dialogue through media, research, publication, seminars, folklore, street-theatre, cultural shows, dance-drama, sports, etc is well appreciated.

Apart from regular programmes SHALOM is also establishing programmatic interconnectivity among different developmental actors in the region particularly in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for creating migrant resource centres, daily wage laborers and domestic workers.

SHALOM interventions are instrumental in ensuring a large number of people in northeast towards better standard of life, livelihood and liberation.
